Fresh Penn Cove Mussels Mussels Steamed in Chardonnay Broth - At the Smokehouse, our favorite way to enjoy mussels is in a Chardonnay broth. First steam your mussels in a pot with water, discarding any that do not open. Then, remove the water, and add the Chardonnay sauce. Simmer, stirring mussels occasionally. Spoon mussels and broth into individual bowls, and serve with your favorite artisan bread (for dipping, of course!). Baked Mussels – Steam your fresh mussels; discard any that do not open. Remove top shell. In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs, melted butter, paprika, Parmesan cheese, diced red onion, bell peppers and chopped cherry tomatoes. Spoon some of the mixture on each steamed mussel, and bake at 350° until the breadcrumbs are golden brown. Serve with a slice of lemon. |
Storing
Store the mussels in your refrigerator and cover with ice or a damp cloth to keep moist. They should not stand in water, so drain liquid from the container daily. |
