Before use, soak your grilling plank in water for 45-60 minutes – or if you’d like a different flavor, try soaking in wine or beer.
If using coals in your barbeque grill, let the coals get completely coated with grey ash and spread them out evenly. If using a gas grill, pre-heat on high and then turn it down to medium for cooking.
Place food on the plank first, after soaking, and then set on the grill. You can choose to cook directly over the heat; or to the side, letting the food cook more slowly by indirect heat. Either way, the plank will burn on the underside and around the edges.
When removing the plank from the barbeque use oven mitts or metal tongs. You may want to place the plank on a tray to avoid charcoal stains. If the plank has burned through anywhere other than the edges, remove the food from the plank before trying to remove the plank from the grill.
PLEASE NOTE: These Cedar Grilling Planks are meant for one-time use only. Use in an indoor oven can be dangerous, as planks may crack or split and spill hot juices from the food. As always, when working with fire and wood, use caution, watch closely, and follow all instructions. |
