Our Commitment to Sustainability
SeaBear is proud to support the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and feature wild
Alaskan salmon bearing its eco-label. MSC is an independent non-profit organization
that awards its label only to seafood that has passed certification as sustainable.
Wild Alaskan salmon was the first U.S. fishery to be awarded this certification for
meeting the MSC's strict environmental standards (virtually all SeaBear wild salmon
comes from the abundant, well-managed runs of Alaska). Today, MSC is rapidly being
adopted as the standard in seafood sustainability certification, and SeaBear is proud
to have been among the very earliest organizations to work with them in the U.S. The
MSC is supported by the World Wildlife Fund, the Audubon Society, Monterey Bay
Aquarium/Seafood Watch Program and other leading environmental organizations. For
further information, visit www.msc.org.
Wild salmon is recognized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium/Seafood Watch program as one
of their "safe choices" (in contrast to farmed "Atlantic Salmon", which is listed under
choices to avoid). Similarly, the Audubon Society lists wild Alaskan salmon in the
recommended “Enjoy” category on their Seafood Wallet Card. Both organizations offer
wallet cards listing all the seafood they recommend, as well as those they recommend
you avoid. For a free copy of either of these wallet cards, please
